THESE GUYS ARE ON FIRE | Candace Tossas
In today’s culture, the term ‘empowerment’ is something we hear or see almost everywhere, right?
But what exactly does empowerment mean? I looked up the definition and this is what I got: authority or power given to someone to do something.
So essentially, empowerment is not something we receive just to feel nice or powerful, it’s something we receive for a purpose.
empowerment
/ɛmˈpaʊəm(ə)nt/
authority or power given to someone to do something.
In Acts 1:8, we read that Jesus said to His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on them. But here it comes… power to be His witnesses.
The power we’ve been given through the Holy Spirit is not only for us to feel powerful, it is to empower us to be Jesus’ witnesses.
But what does it mean to be Jesus’ witness? A witness is someone who has seen, observed and experienced. You’ve been with Jesus, you walked with Him through the gospel of Luke, seen His miracles, experienced how He loves, how He laid down His life, died on a cross, defeated death and was raised to life again.
You are His witness.
In Acts, when the 120 were in the upper room and the Holy Spirit came on them in tongues of fire, they went out, preached about Jesus and 3000 people were saved.
These guys had received power through the Holy Spirit to be Jesus’ witnesses. They were on fire!
The Book of Acts is all about living empowered by the Holy Spirit, and let me tell you, this book is wild!
The disciples encounter so many ups and downs. As we follow them along their journey, see how the Holy Spirit empowered them to proclaim the gospel of Christ with confidence and boldness, and how He also empowers us in our lives today to be His witnesses.
