NOAH’S ARK | Savannah Clements
As children, when hearing the story of Noah’s Ark, we would envision a boat full of happy animals followed by a rainbow. However, when digging deep into these chapters of Genesis, we get a glimpse of the mysteries, action, and deeper meanings which are everywhere within the Bible.
Firstly, how interesting is it to learn that fallen angels mingle with the humans? Although the effects of this were negative, as it corrupted the hearts of the human race, it is still incredibly interesting to have a glimpse at the more supernatural side of scripture. Now this doesn’t happen today and I’m super glad that God put a stop to it!
Another interesting fact we can get from this scripture is the fact that it had not rained in the Bible before this story.
Therefore, when humans heard that there would be a great flood, they mocked Noah because the idea of water covering the land was so foreign to them. Against the persecution from others, Noah stuck to his covenant with God, and because if this he saved not only himself and his family, but also the animals in which God created. God trusted Noah, a human, with his very own creations.
Now, when reading these chapters, we can often become disheartened at the idea that God destroyed the whole human race in his anger.
However, it is important to remember that this is not a reflection of the way God views you, even if you feel as though you are not as faithful as you would like to be. After this event, God says to Noah “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood.” (Genesis 8:21). As humans, we are born into sin, therefore we will never be perfect. God knows this, and he still loves us. In fact, he loves us enough to send his only son so that we may be redeemed. In a way, this story of Noah reflects the death of Jesus, as Jesus dying washed us clean of our sins, an ultimate act of mercy from God as he took the sacrifice upon himself.
In Chapter 9, after the flood waters had dried, God established a covenant with Noah, every living creature, and for all generations to come.
He paints us a rainbow, and promises to never again destroy all life. How cool is that?
Not only is the rainbow a beautiful display, it is also a reminder that God does not want to destroy us, he wants us to prosper and flourish. So, I hope you read these chapters with a knowledge of how much God cares for you, and that you will never experience anything such as this flood, as God has born the sacrifice upon himself.
