TEST OF TRUST | Stephen Douglas
Have you ever found yourself in an exam and your teacher walks past, looks down at your paper and says you should redo that question? When I was in grade 9 my teacher, Mr Rice, yes Mr Rice, walks past my end of year exam, looks at the question I just finished and says, “You should redo that one,” Then waits to see how I go. Mr Rice was the best. He was one of the boys, he had our back in any situation, then would take a step back and be the firm presence of support knowing we could do it. Sounds like the best teacher, sounds like a friend, right?
When you read the chapters before Genesis 21 you’ll see God was teaching Abraham to trust Him, and then rewarding Him in chapter 21. But often after being taught something comes a test to see how much you remember. God was testing to see if Abraham was willing to trust and surrender to Him what He had given him (Isaac).
In reading chapter 22 put yourself in the story. Imagine a voice in your head telling you to sacrifice your most valuable possession. Would you do it or would you not? Would you trust that voice was God?
Just like Mr Rice, God was there on the mountain knowing Abraham could past the test that was in front of him. God knew Abraham would trust Him and knew He was going to show up.
Read Genesis 21 & 22 today and take the test. See if there is anything in your world you need to trust God with again. It could be your family or friends coming to church, trusting God will provide you with a job, or any circumstance you may be facing. Enjoy reading Genesis 21 to 25!
